Parents Have the Right

  • to know the professional qualifications of their child’s teacher(s) including the degrees and certifications held, and whether the teacher is certified in the respective area of instruction;
  • to know the school improvement status of the school;
  • to know the level of achievement of their child in each area of the state assessment;
  • to know if their child has been assigned or has been taught for at least four consecutive weeks by a teacher who does not meet the highly qualified definition;
  • to be involved in the planning and implementation of the parent involvement program in their school; and to access to the school’s improvement and parent involvement plans.

In compliance with the requirements of the Every Student Succeeds Act, parents may request the following information:

1. Whether the student’s teacher

A. has met state qualification and licensing criteria for the grade levels and subject areas in which the teacher provides instruction;

B. is teaching under emergency or other provisional status through which state qualification or licensing criteria have been waived, and

C. is teaching in the field of discipline of the certification of the teacher.

2. Whether the child is provided services by paraprofessionals and, if so, their qualifications.
