Recently, Dr. Colgrove's third-grade class dove into the charming story "Dear Primo," a tale of two cousins exchanging letters, sharing their lives, and sprinkling in bits of Spanish. Inspired by the story, the students were eager to make their own papalotes, or kites, just like the ones mentioned in the book.
The rainy weather put a slight damper on the outdoor kite-flying plans, but it just gave the students' creativity a chance to soar! Using newspaper, the same material the characters used, the children crafted their own unique kites. The rain may have kept everyone inside, but they didn't let it stop their fun! Instead, they brought out a fan and let the papalotes take flight right in the classroom!
The students had a blast watching their kites flutter and dance in the breeze from the fan. This experience not only brought the story to life but also demonstrated how a little imagination can turn a rainy day into an adventure filled with learning and laughter.
Great job, third graders, for making the best of the weather and turning it into a memorable and educational experience!
