To review for the Unit 1 math test, Ms. Hyten’s third grade class played an intense game of “Capture the Flag”. Students were broken into teams and each team was given a set of task cards that reviewed the math content covered in Unit 1.
The rules: The team members had to take turns working the math problems. Whichever student had the marker had to do the writing, but the other team members could help talk through the problem or answer questions. Once students got their answer checked by the teacher; they received a colored flag and were allowed to go steal a flag from another team. The catch: the flags had different point values depending on their color, and the only person that knew the color values was Ms. Hyten! The totals were added up at the end to see which team had the greatest value of flags. Such a fun way to review the content, work on teamwork, and show off their “math mind” skills!
