Mrs. Gano's Class

Mrs. Gano’s second grade class recently embarked on a fun journey into the world of nonstandard measurement. Using Twizzler Bites, the students measured a variety of classroom items, including crayons, pipe cleaners, wooden sticks, markers, and foam letters. This creative approach made learning engaging and helped the children grasp the concept of measurement in a tangible way.

Then the class compared their Twizzler Bite measurements to those obtained using 1-inch foam

squares. The comparison allowed the students to see firsthand how different units of measurement can yield different results.

Later this week, the class will take their newfound skills a step further by comparing their nonstandard measurements to standard measurements using rulers. This will give students a better understanding of how standard units of measurement are used in everyday life and why they are important for accuracy.

Mrs. Gano's innovative approach is sure to leave a lasting impression on her students, fostering a positive attitude towards learning and measurement.
