Mark your calendars for International Dot Day on September 16th! This is a special day to encourage people of all ages to harness their creativity! The inspiration behind the event is the children's book "The Dot" by Peter H. Reynolds. Next week students will do activities in Visual Arts class to celebrate Dot Day. We encourage teachers and students to wear their best dots on the 16th!

Monday - Toy Story: Buzz & Woody "Aliens vs. Cowboys" Dress like cowboys, aliens, or astronauts.
Tuesday - Suite Life of Zach and Cody "Twin Day" Dress like twins with your friends.
Wednesday - Captain America & Captain Marvel "USA Day" Dress in red, white, and blue.
Thursday - Teen Beach Movie: Mack and Brady "Bikers and Surfers" Dress like surfers and bikers (school appropriate attire)
Friday - High School Musical: Once a Wildcat Always a Wildcat. Show your school spirit. Wear school colors.
*These are optional dress up days. Your child is not required to dress up.

Rockstar Day! To celebrate our first set of Rockstar Students, for the month of August we will have Rockstar Day this Friday, September 6th. Wear your favorite Rockstar Attire to help us kick off a great start of the year! *This is an optional dress up day. Students are not required to dress up.
Come join us this evening, Tuesday, Sept. 3rd at OPS in Kingsland and help support our school! OPS Pizza night is tonight from 5:00-8:00. Be sure to tell them you are from Crooked River Elementary School! A portion of your bill will come back to support our school!

Crooked River Elementary School teacher, Mrs. Gano, and her second grade class recently completed a STEM (Science Technology Engineering and Math) project called "Save Fred." In this cooperative activity the students worked in pairs to save a helpless gummy worm named Fred who managed to capsize his boat and lose his life preserver. They had only 4 paper clips and could not use their hands to touch Fred, the boat, or his life preserver. The children loved using critical thinking skills to save Fred!

𝐃𝐢𝐝 𝐘𝐨𝐮 𝐊𝐧𝐨𝐰: School buses are the most regulated vehicles on the road. They’re designed to be safer than passenger vehicles in preventing crashes and injuries, and in every state, stop-arm laws exist to protect children from other motorists.
If you are driving, remember these simple rules:
– 𝐘𝐞𝐥𝐥𝐨𝐰 𝐟𝐥𝐚𝐬𝐡𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐥𝐢𝐠𝐡𝐭𝐬 𝐨𝐧 𝐚 𝐬𝐜𝐡𝐨𝐨𝐥 𝐛𝐮𝐬 𝐦𝐞𝐚𝐧 𝐬𝐥𝐨𝐰 𝐝𝐨𝐰𝐧 — don’t speed up — because the bus is preparing to stop. There are - likely students waiting to get on the bus or parents waiting nearby to pick up children.
– 𝐑𝐞𝐝 𝐟𝐥𝐚𝐬𝐡𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐥𝐢𝐠𝐡𝐭𝐬 𝐦𝐞𝐚𝐧 𝐬𝐭𝐨𝐩 — and wait at least 20 feet behind the bus — because children are getting on or off the school bus. Stay stopped until the red lights stop flashing, the extended stop-arm is withdrawn, and the bus begins moving.
– 𝐄𝐯𝐞𝐧 𝐰𝐡𝐞𝐧 𝐥𝐢𝐠𝐡𝐭𝐬 𝐚𝐫𝐞𝐧’𝐭 𝐟𝐥𝐚𝐬𝐡𝐢𝐧𝐠, 𝐰𝐚𝐭𝐜𝐡 𝐟𝐨𝐫 𝐜𝐡𝐢𝐥𝐝𝐫𝐞𝐧, particularly in the morning or mid-afternoon, around school arrival and dismissal times. Be alert as you back out of a driveway, or drive through a neighborhood, school zone or bus stop.
𝐏𝐚𝐫𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐬 - 𝐭𝐚𝐥𝐤 𝐛𝐮𝐬 𝐬𝐚𝐟𝐞𝐭𝐲 𝐰𝐢𝐭𝐡 𝐲𝐨𝐮𝐫 𝐜𝐡𝐢𝐥𝐝𝐫𝐞𝐧:
Your child should arrive at the bus stop at least 10 minutes before the bus is scheduled to arrive. Teach them to play it SAFE:
– 𝐒tay five steps away from the curb.
– 𝐀lways wait until the bus comes to a complete stop and the bus driver signals for you to board.
– 𝐅ace forward after finding a seat on the bus.
– 𝐄xit the bus after it stops and look left-right-left for cars before crossing a street.

The Camden County Board of Education will have a combined BOE Work Session and Board Meeting on Tuesday, August 13, 2024. The meeting will begin promptly at 6:00 p.m. at the Board of Education located at 311 S East Street in Kingsland.
